one of the most noble profession
my father always tells me to live life with no regrets... well, i'm not one to typically air regrets, and i don't plan on beginning now. i do, from time to time, think about where i'm at, where i'm going, and how the h*ll did i get here? i often look at my quote from mister emerson and wonder about the effect my life will have. what effect has it had thus far? i definitely have not brought a healthy child in this world... i have spent a plethora of hours with healthy children in this world...possibly not enough, for i never feel it is enough... but i've always had a penchant for interacting with the generation nipping at my heels...
my first opportunity to actually interact with generation nippers in an influential role came in high school, where i was a teacher's aide at a local middle school. i spent time at the school each week, and was even selected to be a camp counselor for a week during the school year on their retreat. i'm not sure what effect, if any i had on the kids, but i've run into a few of them on occasion & they still remember me... hopefully, for something positive..
in college, my bruhs, and i coordinated an after school program for middle school aged boys that were not necessarily from the most 'priviliged' backgrounds... again, what we did was not nearly enough... but hopefully, they remember something other than the fun that we had ...
most recently, i had the immense pleasure & opportunity to actually interact with students as a teacher in a head start school in inner city detroit. head start schools contain k-8, but in smaller quantities than a typical elementary or middle school. i'm sure i had an effect on the students there; however, i'm not sure whether that effect vanquished shortly after my departure...
where does this lead me? this leads me to one of the most noble professions... education. i knew not where this blog would lead when i began typing... actually, i had another destination in mind, but it is funny how things come to being... i wonder how many other literary works/ writings began with another thought...
while i'm not entirely sure what direction my life and career will take... i do hope to one day be in a position where i can return to the classroom and share the knowledge i have gained throughout my life/career with a generation of young nerds. should i not be in a position to share something about a particular field, i'll relish the opportunity to return to the classroom to teach the fundamentals...
a plethora of my bruhs have embarked on careers in one of the most noble professions... there's something to be said for that... hopefully, a tradition i participated in during my collegiate years will not inhibit me from joining them at some undisclosed time in the future...
for now, this entry is repsectfully dedicated to those within one of the most noble professions who influence each and everyone of us nerds... [RI at USC, JLL, PCH, AMM (whenever you follow your heart), MAM, MKD, WEN, BLGW]
