university of nerds

the connotation attached with the word "nerd" has gradually transformed itself throughout my quarter century on this planet. initially, it was something to be avoided at all costs... in elementary school or middle school, that was the last thing you wanted to be. in high school, one secretly embraced being a "nerd", if in fact one's peers would consider them such. you could be cool and smart, but being smart then cool...hmm, that was another story. no one would've gone to my parties if i were a known "nerd"...

fast forward to a road trip during the latter years of my collegiate career. i found solace in the fact that i was not alone in embracing my inner "nerd". my friend, who had recently taken the GRE's, had his index cards with him. why did we spend a few hours going through the cards to strengthen our vocabulary? to increase the likelihood of a successful fillerbuster if given the chance? perhaps, but since i'm not going into poiltiks... i'll blame it on the inner nerd.

i came to a realization that most of my friends are nerds, whether they fully embrace it or not. some studied engineering (at umich), others math, english, & architecture, others are getting their doctorates... sheesh! such a thirst for knowledge...

hence this is a conglomeration of folks that are passionate about learning or knowledge.

glad to be a part of it...
